I welcome voice students of almost any age - if you are interested in taking lessons, please read the following below:
I am a classical vocal instructor based in the Honolulu area. I focus on synthesizing the ideal breath with proper alignment and resonance. It is not my aim to yell and shout at you or to “whip you into shape.” We will work together as a team in a safe, comfortable learning environment to improve your voice and musicianship. While taking lessons, we will focus primarily on the classical repertoire—art song and select opera arias—however, these are versatile concepts that can be carried over into a broad range of styles.
Sessions: We will set up weekly sessions at a set time convenient to both parties. If necessary, we will negotiate more or fewer sessions on a case-by-case basis.
Cancellations must be communicated to me no later than the night before your lesson—24 hours notice is highly encouraged. Your lesson will then be rescheduled to a time that is mutually acceptable. Any cancellations the day of will be forfeit and I will expect payment. As a teacher and performing artist, I must keep myself healthy and limit my exposure to errant illness; therefore, I require you to cancel your lesson if you are at all sick or contagious.
Fees: $40/half hour; $60/hour. I will accept payment in cash at the beginning of the lesson. Paying by the month is encouraged.
Age: Adolescent (post puberty) through adult.
Location: To be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Materials for Lesson:
A recording device to record your lessons
Practice Habits: Good practice habits are key to your success as a musician! Moreover, DAILY practice habits are key to your success as a musician. At the very least, I expect you to go through your entire warm-up and vocalizing sequence that we set during your prior lesson (this is where the manuscript paper and the recording device come in handy). As you are just starting out, 30 minutes of daily practice is appropriate; however, as you progress in your lessons and repertoire, 60 minute practice sessions should become the norm.
